The project consists in realizing programmable matter capable of reacting autonomously to mechanical constraints.
Such a device will allow an object formed by micro-robots to change shape. The present project aims at securing this process in order to avoid that the set of robots breaks or falls during its transformation, and also that the structure can adapt to a sound vibration to attenuate its propagation.
In the framework of a collaboration between the teams of two departments of the FEMTO-ST institute (DISC and DMA) and their associated Masters, we wish to show how the modular approach allows to define a new paradigm for the control of the dynamic behavior of structures. As the architecture plays a major role in the dynamic behavior of structures, it is possible to control the latter by modifying the spatial organization of the system.
